Tafoni Trail with Nueva Parents Laura Stupi and Rachel Christenson
Spend an afternoon hiking through a magical redwood forest to hidden monolithic sandstone formations called tafoni. Tafoni are small cave-like features found in granular rock and have been found across the earth, with dramatic forms found in the Jodhpur-Ajmer section of India’s Thar Desert, as well as Petra, Jordan, Coastal California, Australia, and even in the Arctic regions and Antarctica! Learn from a Bay Area geologist how this beautiful structure came to exist in the middle of the forest and what created its unique honeycomb like patterning.  The hike will be approximately three miles with an easy/moderate amount of elevation gain, and we expect it will take two or three hours. Prior to the hike, we will meet for a picnic lunch. This adventure will require some level of physical capabilities and would be ideal for ages seven (7) and up. All children need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. The meeting location is Skeggs Point, a 40-minute drive from Nueva’s Hillsborough campus. This hike will be led by parents Laura Stupi and Rachel Christenson. Laura Stupi M.S. is a bay area geologist with a background in mineral physics, engineering geology, and scientific instrumentation. She is also an experienced backpacking guide for children and adults certified as a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) who grew up hiking Pt. Reyes, and the Trinity Alps. More recently, she has hiked Utah's canyons and the various ecosystems of Alaska. Rachel Christenson’s passion is exploring nature. She spent her childhood hiking through the canyons of Utah. More recently, she has explored more than 40 Bay Area trails, climbed the Mount Whitney Mountaineer Trail (the tallest peak in the continental 48), and Mount Kilimanjaro (the highest mountain in Africa).

June 1, 2019 from 11 am to 3 pm. For ages seven (7) and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bollywood Bash Once Again!

The Bollywood Bash is back by popular demand! We could not believe how wholeheartedly the Nueva community embraced this event last year from donning beautiful Bollywood outfits to becoming overnight experts in Bollywood dancing! So, we’re doing it all over again. Please come join us for a very special evening at the Los Altos Hills home of Nueva parents Vara Ramakrishnan and Dinesh Ramanathan on Saturday, October 12, 2019. We’ll have much of what everyone loved last year: delectable food, a look into your future, and, of course, Bollywood (and other) dancing. And we’ll try and have a couple of new surprises as well. For those coming for the first time, or for those who want a new outfit, we can add on an optional pre-party private gathering to pick up Indian wear and accessories. Suggested attire for this unique community party is festive and colorful -- Indian or otherwise. We look forward to making magical memories with you on October 12!
