Celebrity designer and legendary host Ken Fulk invites you and 19 of your closest friends to an evening at the glamorous and hip Saint Joseph's Arts Society in San Francisco. Guaranteed Parking for a Year at the Nueva Hillsborough Campus
Now, this one is truly priceless. It’s the first day of school, and you weave your way through all the cars in the parking lot on your way to your very own, personally assigned parking space on the Hillsborough campus. You think you’ve got it pretty good, but then it’s Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day, and instead of bringing your parents to school a half hour early to try to find a spot, you find yourself arriving on time and cruising directly into your reserved personal parking space, always waiting for you.
Fast forward to holiday concerts, culmination nights, parent-teacher conferences, and you realize you’ve won the golden ticket. And your reward is way better than a lifetime’s supply of chocolate. It’s the kind of rare parental peace of mind that comes from not having to worry about one more thing for an entire academic year.
The winning bidder can choose a reserved spot in either the south lot or the parking under the J building AND can choose to relocate to a spot in the Lower School lot once construction is completed.
Parking is for August 2020 through June 2021.

UK Literary and Artistic Tour for Adults
Literary and artistic tours of England abound, but this one-of-a-kind trip puts you inside the minds of artists and writers themselves—thanks to guides Claire Yeo, Upper School English teacher, and Allen Frost, Director of the Innovative Teacher program. Inspired by design thinking, you’ll experience the ways that landscapes—both urban and rural—influenced literature and visual art, from 18th century novels to 21st century pop songs.
You'll immerse yourself in streetscapes, neighborhoods, architectural landmarks, gardens, and country estates, and contemplate how these environments find their way into novels, poems, and paintings. Daytime explorations of sites will be complemented by afternoons and evenings of guided discussions of relevant writing and art, which you will find in an anthology curated especially for this trip. And no design thinking trip would be complete without trying your own hand at writing or art, which you’ll do during sessions that encourage you to be inspired by the contemporary visual environments of London, Bath, and the Cotswolds!
In the fashionable Regency spa city of Bath (now a World Heritage City), you will take Jane Austen’s last novel Persuasion as your guide. You will explore how Austen’s life intersected with the global currents of early 19th century trade, war, and empire, and how the setting of Bath communicated the social hierarchies, geographies, and rituals throughout the novel.
Amidst the rolling hills of the nearby Cotswolds, you’ll visit the manor house Burnt Norton, which inspired T.S. Eliot’s revolutionary modernist poem, and speak with the current owner about her part in its legacy. You’ll connect this milieu of the landed gentry with Nancy Mitford’s comedy of English manners, The Pursuit of Love, and hike the countryside that inspired Laurie Lee’s luminous memoir of adolescence, Cider with Rosie, to map the class and social distinctions that coexist between village and manor.
Once in London, you’ll explore the Inns of Court and the legal culture that forms the backdrop of Charles Dickens’ celebrated novel Bleak House. To the strains of a curated London playlist (featuring The Kinks, M.I.A., and Taylor Swift, among many others), you’ll also venture into Bloomsbury, the haunt of the next generation of artists and writers, such as Virginia Woolf and Lytton Strachey. You’ll soak up Royal Palace Hampton Court, visit the Hampstead Heath, and stop by the Kensington High Street, home of Lord Leighton, and so much more. As you near the end of your adventure, Brick Lane (both the novel and the street itself) will afford you the experience of contemporary London in the vivid diversity and energy of the Bangladeshi community.
Adults only. Maximum of 12 individual winners. Trip to take place during spring break 2021. Price does not include airfare and ground transportation to and from airports, travel insurance, weekday dinners, alcohol, or personal purchases. All participants must be comfortable walking several miles a day. We recommend all winners purchase trip insurance.

Trip to Jordan with Nueva Scholars
Over spring break 2021, 14 lucky people will spend a week touring Jordan with Nueva history teachers Brian Cropper and Arta Khakpour, former residents, historical experts, and regional specialists. Any visit to these historically and culturally rich regions has the potential to be unforgettable, but rarely do such trips offer the chance to go off the beaten path to see well beyond what the average tourist might encounter.
You’ll visit Amman, where you’ll be steeped in the political and religious history of modern Jordan from multiple perspectives. You’ll witness the vibrancy of modern Jordan and its café culture as you gain a greater appreciation for the history of the modern state.
You’ll hike and explore Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, taking in its extraordinary monastery and Great Temple, as well as tombs from Nabatean, Greek, and Roman times. You’ll have the chance to tour an archaeological dig Arta himself has worked on. And don’t forget Brian and Arta’s favorite, a donkey ride day trip to Jebel Haroun, the famed tomb of the biblical Aaron! After all this, you’re sure to enjoy that glass of wine in a 2,000-year-old Nabaean rock tomb called the Cave Bar.
And no Nueva tour of this fascinating region would be complete without experiences of nomadic culture, military history, and the stunning natural beauty of Jordan. Star Wars fans will particularly enjoy the visit to Wadi Rum, and everyone will appreciate this poetic backdrop to Arab history and Bedouin culture. You’ll also spend the night in a Bedouin camp, dive into the Red Sea, and spend a night at a luxury resort on the Dead Sea.
In transit you’ll visit the King’s Academy School, with which Nueva Upper School students partner in the Global Online Academy consortium. Brian and Arta will then lead you on tours of Madaba, “The City of Mosaics”; Kerak Castle, a Crusader castle; and fortresses.
This extraordinary adventure will take place during spring break 2021. Trip is open to individuals and groups that can buy multiple tickets (only 14 spots available). It is not a student-centered trip; students may not travel alone. The trip entails lectures, lessons, hiking, riding, and diving geared towards adults, but we are open to having parents bring their own kids. Includes accommodations, excursions as described, and meals. Airfare and travel insurance are not included. Travel insurance is recommended.
